Wind Band Major

Our goal is to nurture leaders with extensive knowledge of wind bands and to send out capable people into the world who can use these qualities to play an active role in society, regardless of industry, such as in media, music-related companies, and general business enterprises. In order to become good instructors, students must become good performers and musicians. Therefore, students acquire solid techniques and rich musicality through private and ensemble lessons. This major’s unique curriculum consists of many courses that bring out the individuality of each student, allowing them to choose the academic content that best suits their desired career path.

• In Band Direction, students are exposed to a variety of teaching methods and learn methodology, planning, and communication skills.
• In workshops, students gain hands-on experience in a variety of wind band-related occupations.
• Students acquire knowledge of all the instruments used in wind bands, which they can apply to their teaching methods and composition/arranging.
• Students gain the ability to compose and arrange music for wind bands by learning in step-by-step theory classes.
• Students can also take a variety of courses to deepen their knowledge and abilities in highly specialized fields such as marching, pop music, and composition.
